Looking for charming and relaxing way to spend the afternoon without the kids, then check out The Grocery located in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn. We celebrated my daughter’s godmother’s (she has two) birthday recently and her choice for our dining pleasure was “The Grocery Restaurant”. Smith Street has really “grown up” over that last few years, adding new restaurants and retailers to the neighboorhood, making it a must visit destination.
The Grocery Restaurant – don’t you just love the name, so not pretentious or snooty like many Manhattan restaurants.
When you arrive at the restaurant, you may wander by it because the facade looks like a struggling and non-descript storefront. But when you walk in, there is a soothing feel to the 30 seat restaurant, it’s definitely provides you with a truly intimate feeling.
Before we ordered, we had to order champagne to get the celebration started. For our lunch, there were two choices that seemed to appeal to us – grass fed beef burger and BBQ duck sandwich with coffee BBQ sauce.
Both were amazingly good. The pulled BBQ duck was awesomely delicious and the entree came with fries which was perfectly seasoned. Since this was a Saturday afternoon, there were only a few tables that were occupied, so we really took our sweet time, enjoyed great conversation and savored a great meal.
For dessert, we shared gingerbread steamed pudding just because how often does one get to have fancy gingerbread. It was to die for.
So venture to The Grocery for lunch or dinner for a relaxing and delicious evening without the kiddies.
