Saturday Family Programs: Brian Barrentine and his FunikiJam Friends

Here is a rock concert for the entire family as you get down with Brian Barrentine and his FunikiJam friends with their globe spanning and infectious music. FunikiJam is jam packed with multicultural songs, storytelling, dancing, interactive learning, and fun. Warning: FunikiJam side effects may include clapping, dancing, jumping, laughing and singing a variety of languages. Seating is first come, first served.

Terrarium Workshop with Emily Thompson Flower

Kids and Parents learn to make and care for terrariums. Class is $40 for instruction and basic materials for 1 terrarium and additional materials and terrariums will also be available for purchase. This is not drop off This is a parent participation class.

5th Avenue Family Fun Festival

Come to 5th Avenue Park Slope for a  day of family fun, filled with live music, food, games, face painting crafts, bounce house and Star Wars Characters. The first 200 kids will receive a gift bag full of goodies.

Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival

Celebrate at the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.  The Sakura Matsuri is the nation’s largest event in a public garden with weekend long events to celebrate traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.  Conceived as a tribute to the Garden’s iconic display, Sakura Matsuri  has  over 60 performances, demonstrations, and exhibits—many of which are specially commissioned for this dynamic spring celebration.

Touch a Truck

What child doesn’t love trucks? Here a chance for kids to climb inside, touch and explore working trucks and vehicles they see in everyday life, up close and personal at Touch A Truck Brooklyn. Over 20 vehicles are scheduled to take part in the event, along with their drivers/operators, who will be on hand to explain how these automobiles work and what purpose they serve in the community. All proceeds benefit the arts programs at P.S. 295.

And how can there be a Touch A Truck event without Brooklyn’s famed gourmet food trucks? Families can purchase savory treats from the following food trucks that will be at the event: Frites & Meats will be on hand  with amazing burgers and fries, Souvlaki GR with their authentic Greek street food, Mr. Jalapeño’s great Mexican food and  The Treats Truck with their delicious sweets.

When: Saturday, April 28, 12:00PM – 5:00pm, rain or shine
Where: The fair will run the length of 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, next to PS 295, which lies at the intersection of Park Slope, Windsor Terrace and Sunset Park.

Brooklyn Family Resource Day

The New York City Child Care Resource & Referral Consortium will have representatives from a variety of community resources  for Brooklyn Family Resource Day. The day is aimed at  providing information to help families find summer camps, child care programs and educational resources. Various workshops and activities will also be available throughout the day. Children will be able to have their face painted. Give-aways will also be available for children.
