Like me, I am sure you are making lots of New Year’s resolutions but I am sure you are not thinking about preparing for the unexpected. Like it or not, emergencies, from fires to water main breaks to winter storms, happen every day in our fair city. Here is a resolution to get your entire family involved; preparedness for emergencies.
The first step in ensuring your family is ready for an emergency is by visiting Ready New York’s latest online tool, the Readiness Challenge. The tool takes you through a real-life emergency situation that forces you to make quick decisions at every turn.
Once you have completed all the scenarios, Ready New York can refer you to various Ready New York resources to create an emergency plan.
To help you prepare for an emergency in the New Year, one Brooklyn Mamas reader will win an Emergency Preparedness Kit (first aid kit, flashlight, batteries and other items, you may need in an emergency.) Giveaway ends January 24, 2012 and is open to Brooklyn Residents, 18 and older only, with a valid Brooklyn street address.
