NYC Public Schools and Resources – April Key Dates

Spring Break is over but that doesn’t mean there aren’t  school related important dates coming up especially when it comes to resources that can help you navigate the school and college process. We hope that the dates listed below will help you keep track!

New York State Exams for Third through Eight Graders
Students in grades three to eight will be participating in English Language Arts tests from April 17 to 19 and Math tests from April 25 to April 27.


Special Ed Resource Fair

Finding out about available citywide resources can be an arduous task for families with special needs. If you are need of information or have questions that need answering on resources that are available, the Citywide Council on Special Education (CCSE) and The Citywide District 75 Council  is having a Special Ed Resource Fair on April 18, 2012. So come learn about how the CCSE and the Citywide District 75 Council can help you.

QSAC Autism Conference
On April 19, Quality Services for the Autism community (QSAC) will present a conference for parents and families as well as professionals on the topic of autism. Workshops will cover increasing language, sexuality, and navigating insurance.

When: Thursday, April 19 from 8:30AM to 3:30PM
Where: Sheraton LaGuardia, 135-20 39th Avenue, Flushing
Cost: $25 for family members; scholarships are available


NACAC National College Fair
Here is an opportunity to meet reps from hundred of colleges all in one location. Parents and students can also participate in workshops about financial aid, admissions, and students with special needs and college.

When: Sunday, April 22 from 11AM to 4PM
Where: Javits Convention Center, Hall 1A, 655 West 34 Street, Manhattan
Cost: Free


Types of Learning Disabilities and Evaluations
This workshop will go over the different kinds of learning and attention disorders that can affect school-age children, the evaluations that are available, and how to obtain them for your child. For more information and to register contact Meredith Nabozny at

Brooklyn Family Resource Day

The New York City Child Care Resource & Referral Consortium will have representatives from a variety of community resources  for Brooklyn Family Resource Day.  The day is aimed at  providing information to help families find summer camps, child care programs and educational resources. Various workshops and activities will also be available throughout the day. Children will be able to have their face painted. Give-aways will also be available for children.
