The Chinese New Year of 2012 is the year of the Dragon and falls on January 23rd. Brooklyn Mamas has put together a list of fun activities for you and your children in Brooklyn, plus information on the two major parades in Manhattan and Queens.
Saturday Family Program: Celebrate Chinese New Year
Grace Chang and her dragon, Jin Jin will light up the stage in an incredible celebration of puppets, magical illusions, acrobats, miming and storytelling. FREE.

Play Lab Workshop: 3,2,1…Happy Chinese New Year!
Children Ages 2.5-5 will learn all about the Chinese New Year celebrations and create a special craft to take home. Free with museum admission.

Mini Jake’s Little Dragon Chinese New Year Celebration
Mini Jake’s will be celebrating the Chinese New Year with crafts, a Chinese folk dance performance, a sample mandarin class offered by Lango Kids as well as a reading by Michele Wong McSween, author of the Gordon & Li Li series. All activities are FREE but registration is required.

New Year Parade & Festival in Manhattan
Lion and Dragon dances throughout all of Chinatown’s streets. FREE.
When: January 29, 2012, 1pm
Where: Manhattan’s Chinatown
Chinese New Year Parade in Queens
Dragon dancers, steel drummer and fireworks will be part of the parade. A festival will be held at 12:30 at Queens Crossing Mall (Main St. & 39 Ave). The festival will include traditional cultural performances and festival booths.
