Out With the Old…Places to Donate in Brooklyn

New year. New You. New holiday gifts that take up too much space. Now’s the perfect time to get rid of some old toys, clothes and other household items and make room for new items.

Brooklyn Mamas has put together a list of places that accept donated items.

Goodwill accepts gently used clothing and shoes, as well as small housewares in good condition, books, CD’s, DVD’s, linen, sporting goods and more.

The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army accepts clothing, appliances, furniture, household goods, and more.
Where: 436 Atlantic Avenue. Brooklyn, NY 11217 There are three more locations in Brooklyn. Visit satruck.org for additional locations.

Vietnam Veterans of America
VVA accepts clothing, books, toys, baby gear, appliances, household goods, furniture and more.
Where: There are no drop-off locations but you can schedule a pickup by calling 1-800-459-8387 or filling out the form by visiting wvapick.org.

Housing Works
Housing Works accepts clothing, jewelry, handbags, art, antiques, housewares, furniture and more.
Where: There are two locations in Brooklyn: 266 Fifth Avenue (718) 636-2271 and 122 Montague Street (718) 237-0521
Pick Up: You can also sign up for a furniture pick-up by visiting housingworks.org.

And don’t forget to ask for a receipt as donations are tax-dedutible.
