Thanksgiving Day/Weekend Events Around New York City

Nothing like getting together with family and friends to enjoy a lovely Thanksgiving meal. However,be sure to check out some of the events going on Thanksgiving day and weekend!

Thursday November 24th,2011 :

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
9am-12pm
The 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will kick off at 77th Street and Central Park West, then travel downtown  to Herald Square,34th Street.  If you plan to attend the parade and get a good view, then early arrival is suggested. Long Island City YMCA Kids Turkey Trot
Starts at 8A.M
Kids of all ages can participate in the races. Register before November 24th at $8 per child or $15 per family. Registration the day of  is $10 per child or $20 per family. Proceeds from the event will benefit the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign to help fight childhood obesity.  The Long Island City YMCA is located at 32-23 Queens Blvd,Queens,NY. For more information check out http://licturkeytrot.com/ .

Friday November 25th,2011 :

Harvest Collage & Gratitude plates at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan
Open from 10AM-5pm
Admission prices $11 for children & adults,Seniors $7 and children under 12 months are free.

Visit the CMOM to create some very cool Thanksgiving arts and crafts. Children 5 and older can create a Gratitude Plate expressing what they are grateful for! Kiddos 4 and younger can celebrate the fruits and vegetables of autumn by creating a harvest collage with paper cut outs and glitter!  The CMOM is located in the Tisch Building at 212 West 83rd Street,New York,NY. Thanksgiving Weekend Family Stories at the New York Historical Society
Bring your camera and with the help of a story teller and background props, help to tell your family’s story. The New York Historical Society is located at 170 Central Park West, New York, NY 10024. “America’s Parade: Celebrating 85 Years of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade”  Exhibit at The Children’s Museum of Manhatten is a new exhibit going on through January  16th,2012. Parent’s and children will enjoy watching old clips and looking through old photos of past parades. Visit http://www.cmom.org for more details.

Harvest Time Hangings
10am–1pm
Kids can create wall art by collecting things of nature such as leaves and pine cones and weaving them together to create a beautiful wreath.
Located at the Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center, 675 W 252nd St at 249th St, Bronx (718-549-3200, wavehill.org). Free with garden admission.

The Three Bears Holiday Bash

Tthe talented folks at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre mix up Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas themes into the company’s take on “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” Located at The Central Park Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre on West 79th St .
