Things to Do This Weekend in Brooklyn – May 5 and 6

We at Brooklyn Mamas are excited that The Mamas Expo is finally here. Come out this Saturday to the New York Hall of Science and check it out. If not,  here is our list of fun things to do with your kids this Cinco de Mayo weekend.

 

Cinco de Mayo brunch at pomme
Anna Harrington will guide the kids in making their own Huevos Rancheros. Kids will cook fried or scrambled eggs on a griddle top.  They will learn important lessons about cooking with heat. The kiddies will make fresh salsa to go along with their yummy eggs.  They will also make Mexican hot chocolate as an extra treat, and then set the table and share in a festive brunch! For ages 4-8yrs and is a drop off event.

B&B Carousell Open House
Come out and experience the first glances of the rehabilitated B&B Carousell. The first completed restored horse will be on display and you will be able to have your picture taken with the new horse. The Coney Island History Project will host this open house and have information and photos of the restoration process.

5th Annual Go Green! Greenpoint! Earth Day Festival
Families will have so much to do at Go Green! Greenpoint. This fun-filled community event will include educational displays, health & wellness tips. You can shop as there will be arts & crafts sold by artists, artisans, & craftsmen. Plenty of  children’s activities along with live music & performances, and so much more!

The Fourth Annual Spring Handmade Cavalcade
The Fourth Annual Spring Handmade Cavalcade  will showcase over 30 local artists and crafters from Etsy New York Team.   Lovers of all things local and handmade  can load up on clothing, jewelry, accessories, paper goods, bath and body treasures, toys, kids clothing and accessories,  housewares and more, all handmade by some of the most creative local artisans and crafters in the NYC metropolitan area.

Arrive early, as the first 100 shoppers will receive an amazing goodie bag packed with a unique sampling of handmade wares from members of Etsy New York and local small businesses sponsoring the event.

With each purchase, shoppers will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of three Etsy New York prize packages, filled with handmade donations from our talented members.

Chocolate Chip Music presents Saris and Sitars
A trio of native Indian musicians featuring Sitar, Tabla and Violin, provides an educational and festive framework to the Baker’s birthday celebration in the park. When Baker Bobbie receives an intriguing package from India for her birthday, this program ‘unfolds’ to reveal all kinds of possibilities as to what is inside.  Seating is first come, first served.

15th Annual Cinco de Mayo 5K Run
Children ages 5-12 can run the race after the 5K run and will receive a medal for participating. Of course, if parents would like to participate, register at camny.org. for the 5K run through Prospect Park.

Silhouette Booking Details: You may book one portrait sitting for you or your child(ren), or a double sitting for you and the kid(s). When you book a double sitting, bring in a photo of grand or great grandmother and Andrea will create an intergenerational keepsake.

Sow and Flax Weekend
Come help them prepare the soil and sow flax seeds along with seeing how a spinning wheel turns flax into thread and how that thread is then woven into cloth. You will be able to use needle and thread sew a linen pouch for yourself.
