Top Ten Weekend Events – January 14 – 16

Make the most of the long, three-day weekend!  The Brooklyn Mamas have rounded up the best events and activities to keep you busy all weekend long while celebrating the legacy of Dr. King.

Illustrator David Ercolini will read and draw from his latest children’s book, Not in This House, about a young and adventurous traveling explorer.  Get in on the fun at Greenlight Bookstore.

Board Games for Kids
Put away the electronics and get back to basics as the library brings out great board games for kids to play with each other.  Scrabble, Monopoly, Yatzee and more.  See details at Board Games for Kids.

Let’s Join Hands, A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King
Kids ages 5 and under and invited to learn about Dr. King’s message of peace and friendship as they explore various cultures.  Children will also create a hand wreath to take home.  Learn more at Let’s Join Hands.

Puss in Boots
Kids ages three and up will enjoy the story of “Puss in Boots” as a live, musical marionette show.  Shows all weekend long.  Learn more about the production at Puppetworks.

Journey to the Past: Willie Maeby and the BMT
Willie Maeby, a conductor from the 1920’s will be on hand to discuss his life working on the railroad and subway travel from long ago. Performance is 30 minutes.  Get details at Journey to the Past.

Family Disco Party
Kids of all ages, and even mom and dad, will love to get down and shake their groove thang at this family friendly disco party.  Check it out at Family Disco Party.

Prospect Park Zoo Discovery Center

Arty Facts: Go Figure
Kids ages 4-7 are invited to explore the galleries and then make then own art at this 90 minute class.  See all details at Arty Facts.

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Beauty and the Beast, 3D
No doubt this is the one your own little princess has been waiting for.  Beauty and the Beast opens at theaters all over Brooklyn this weekend so don’t miss out on a special day with this Disney classic.  Check your local listings for theaters and showtimes.
